The supreme court of Iowa has specified the use of income shares model with gross income as basis to calculate child support amount.

  • The parent with the higher income has to make a higher proportion of support money in order to maintain the standard of living of the child.
  • The child support will ensue until the child turns eighteen or completes high school except in the case where the child is mentally or physically disabled where the age limit will be decided as per court ruling.
  • The gross income of the parents including all salaries, wages, bonuses, commission of any sorts shall be considered for determining the support amount.
