Identity theft is stealing a person’s identity, which can include the name, social security number, credit card number, driver’s license, and more merely to defraud or impersonate the person and obtain some benefits.

According to South Carolina identity theft laws, this is considered a criminal offense.

• It classifies as an automatic felony offense, and the penalties include a fine indiscretion or imprisonment for ten years or both.
