Identity theft cases are increasing with time in Georgia.

The courts of Georgia have some strict laws and penalties surrounding the crime, which fall under Ga.Code §16-9-120 et seq.

Identity theft, in general, is stealing or unauthorized use of a person’s financial or personal identity information.

  • According to the Georgia Identity theft law,

if an individual commits identity theft for the first time, then

a penalty often in imprisonment for about 10 years is ordered. In addition, a fine in dollars is collected.

  • If an individual is found committing the crime and is less than 21 years of age, then

according to the state’s identity theft laws, the person will be imprisoned for about 1 to 3 years, and a fine of $5000 is imposed on the person.
