The supreme court of Iowa has specified the use of the income shares model with gross income as a basis to calculate child support amount.

  • The parent with a higher income has to make a higher proportion of support money to maintain the child’s standard of living.
  • Child support will ensue until the child turns eighteen or completes high school, except when the child is mentally or physically disabled, where the age limit will decide as per the court ruling.
  • The parent’s gross income, including all salaries, wages, bonuses, a commission of any sort, shall be considered for determining the support amount.
