
The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs oversees the implementation of consumer protection laws in the state.
- The South Carolina Consumer Protection Code (Title 37) covers various topics like loans, credit sales, insurance, prepaid legal services, etc. and the applicable penalties and remedies for each violation.
- The Code or the Law does not cover transactions relating to credit advances to government agencies, student loans, security transaction deals and agricultural loans.
- The law also provides a ceiling limit on the quantum of credit advanced to consumers under section 37-1-102 (b).
- The Administrator of the Department will be responsible for conducting enquiries and investigations in order to award remedies to consumers.
