Alimony or the spousal support offered in California is based on the rules laid in the California family laws.

Courts generally consider various factors when awarding the support.

California Alimony Calculator:

During the initial stages of divorce the spousal support in California is calculated using the following formula;

Formula

Spousal Support = 40% of the higher earning spouse’s income – (minus) the 50% of the lower earning spouse’s income.

 

Later on, these calculations show some discretion and are generally based on

  • The net income of the supported spouse,
  • Net income of the paying spouse,
  • Duration of the marriage and,
  • Age of the supported spouse.
