The California Family Code sections 4050 to 4076 define various responsibilities and liabilities of the parents relating to the custody and maintenance of a minor child.

  • According to the California child support laws, the support amount from the parents will compute based on the income shares model after considering the period of custody of the child with each parent.
  • The law lays down that the responsibility of the parents is mutual and that each parent should contribute in relation as per their ability.
  • The court has the power to award financial compensation to a parent for taking care of the child during the period(s) when the other parent is incapable of maintaining the child.
