Alimony is replaced with Maintenance in Missouri Alimony law and is generally order by the trial courts during divorce proceedings.

It is the payments made to a low-earning ex-spouse to provide a reasonable living.

Confirmations before awarding Maintenance:

The trial courts can award maintenance after confirming that the recipient spouse;

  • lack property that can provide them with reasonable living.
  • Is unable to find appropriate employment to support themself.
  • Is a custodian of a child whose condition prevents them from seeking an employment.

The court can then award the maintenance, which can be modified or terminated upon the court’s will.

The payments can be made at the Missouri Family Support Payment Center or directly to the spouse receiving them.
