HomeAlimony IndianaIndiana Alimony Law

Indiana alimony law defined as Spousal maintenance is the payment made by a higher earning spouse as an allowance to the lower earning spouse.

It can be awarded in two different situations to the spouses who hold a proof for legal marriage in Indiana.

The situations include:

  • Temporary Alimony:

It is paid during the sessions of divorce. This generally comes into picture when the spouse is not working during marriage and needs some support to manage his/her expenses.

  • Post Decree Spousal Maintenance:

This is awarded after the dissolution of the marriage, when

->   there are cases like physical or mental incapability.

->   the spouse is bound to several liabilities during the period of marriage.

->  the partner is a guardian of a child.
