Identity theft defines as stealing a person’s identity information like the name, SSN, credit card number, driver’s license, and more to impersonate or defraud the person and enjoy financial and non-financial benefits.
- According to the law in SD, identity theft is considered a criminal offense and is placed under the code section S.D. Codified laws §22-30A-3.1 et seq and section 22-6-2.
- Identity theft places under the class 1 Misdemeanor act, and a fine of $1,000 and imprisonment for a year in the country jail or both impose on the individual.
