The Rhode Island Consumer Laws enacts various statutes to protect consumers’ rights and interests from multiple unfair trade practices.

• The Contractor Registration Board Act

prevents consumers from being exploited by contractual services.

The Act requires compulsory licensing and the creation of guarantee funds for contractors.

• The Deceptive Trade Practices Act

equips the Attorney General with rights to initiate legal action against guilty traders who commit unlawful trade practices.

• The Government Tort Liability

requires insurance companies to partner with the State in indemnifying and defending insurance claims of State employees.

• The Mortgage Foreclosure Consultant Regulation

regulates the actions of real estate professionals.

In addition, the Bill provides consumers three grace days to rescind the contract with foreclosure real estate dealers.
