The New Hampshire Consumer Protection Act forbids merchants and businesses from resorting to unfair trade practices that exploit consumers for profit.

  • The Act prevents second-hand, materially altered or goods of degraded quality as new or first hand to consumers.
  • Misrepresentation of characteristics, quality, contents, ingredients, etc., is also forbidden under the law.
  • Selling gift certificates of values less than $100 is unlawful under the Act.
  • A cooling-off period of three days is available whereby consumers have the right to cancel the sale and to receive a return of deposit or money paid.
