Similar to other aspects related to land and property, rental agreements in West Virginia are also placed under
West Virginia real estate laws with a code section of 5-11A-5; 37-6-5.
According to the real estate laws of the state,
discrimination in terms of age, sex, religion, color, creed, race and origin is regarded as a legal offense.
General terms in the rental agreement:
A tenant signs a rental agreement with the landlord following the real estate laws.
They generally include:
- The terms for the payment of rent, either weekly or on monthly basis.
- The terms about the amount deposited by the tenant as a security deposit for renting the property.
- The terms of the termination of the agreement and the refund of the amount, this is to be paid as a security deposit.
